Ilona Snitka
MD (Latvia), MSc
Ilona is a qualified psychotherapist with a medical background, working with adults and young people (16+) who want more than just a safe space.

Her approach is warm and respectful, but also direct and engaged. She works at depth to help clients understand emotional and relational patterns shaped by early experiences, attachment, trauma, and internal conflict. People often come to her when they feel stuck, overwhelmed, ashamed, or disconnected from themselves – when insight alone is not enough, and they need a place to think, feel, and understand what is happening inside.
Ilona works psychodynamically and in a person-centred way, within a pluralistic framework, and where appropriate incorporates elements of cognitive and behavioural work. Her work integrates emotional processing, relational understanding, and embodied experience. The focus of her work is not only on coping, but on clarity, integration, and meaningful change.
Ilona qualified from Riga Stradins University in 2003 as a Medical Doctor, before going on to specialise in Psychotherapy and Psychosomatic Medicine in 2007. After relocating to Scotland, she completed an MSc in Counselling from Abertay University in 2022.

She offers both short-term and long-term individual psychotherapy. Sessions are face-to-face, and last 50 minutes.

Ilona has experience working with a range of mental health issues, including anxiety, trauma, relational difficulties, identity issues, and neurodiversity. Her approach is integrative, drawing on Person-centred and Psychodynamic ways of working. She works with Adults, Older adults and Young people (16+), and speaks English, Latvian, and Russian.

She currently offers face-to-face daytime and evening sessions on Monday evenings, Wednesday mornings and a limited number of Saturday appointments. She offers a reduced rate for self-funding clients for therapy (£100 assessment, thereafter £75 per session).
